The K.C.F.C Project (Kids for a Crime Free Community)
The K.C.F.C Project (Kids For A Crime-Free Community) was established in 1997 under the management of Richard Adam Sellers, at the age of 9, to give the neighborhood children a hand in bringing forth a positive change in the communities that they reside in, mainly crime-wise. Many kids grab their vests and two-way radios and patrol the streets in the afternoon, reporting malicious activity to their local police precinct. Under their watchful eye of supervisors and chaperons, they help bring the crime rate in their community down to a minimum, an example of community service that the YROP provides.
The K.C.B.B. Project (Kids Community Books on the Block)
The K.C.B.B. Project was commenced in 1997, as a resource for literature assistance and literary text for neighborhood children who lack convenient access to their libraries in their neighborhoods and schools. Graphic novels, magazines, and other forms of literature are donated to the organization and are placed in the bookshelves for anyone to pick up and read. From classic kids’ books like Dr. Seuss’ Green Eggs & Ham, to popular graphic novels and manga, the K.C.B.B Project makes sure that we obtain them all. Every year we bring in a few new series of books, and donate old ones to other organizations in need of books.
The YROP After-School Tutorial Services
The “After School” tutorial services were the oldest and longest services that the YROP has provided ever since its first official opening in 1995. College students, former teachers, and even high school honor students devote their time to assist students in any area of school subjects.
The YROP Computer Laboratory
Where libraries are full of people gaining access to the worldwide web and where schools are closed in the evenings, prohibiting access to computers, the YROP has “the little guy” covered. Students can now visit the computer lab in the YROP center for school projects, Microsoft Office skill building, creating resumes, or forming PowerPoint presentations.
The YROP After-School Summer Art and Science Club
Some of the greatest artists (Van Gogh, Michelangelo, Aaron Douglas) were inspired by their own sense of creativity. In the YROP Art Club, creativity is encouraged. Students can express themselves through various activities such as drawing and/or painting murals and portraits, and designing sculptures. Once creativity is embedded into lives, there is no limit for anyone to succeed to. The Science club introduces kids and teens the “fun stuff” of science. This exposes the great things science can be used to make most of the “boring” this in science class at school seems way interesting!
The YROP Family/Community Food Pantry
The YROP Food Pantry makes groceries available to the families of low income communities in metro-Atlanta that can make ends meet, but not enough to provide for the daily groceries. Networking with Action Ministries, we transport grocery items into our pantry, and distribute the items to families for support.
The YROP Community Resource Center
The YROP provides youth, teens, and families with helpful tips, financial advice, and learning essentials from various sources.
United Way’s Project OVERCOAT
The YROP joins forces with United Way of Metropolitan Atlanta in the fight to assist the homeless and the needy with coats for the fall and winter season. Coats are shipped to us to distribute to the many people in need of coats, clothes, and other necessities during the cold seasons.
Marine Corps Toys for Tots Program
The YROP, with the help of Marine Toys for Tots Foundation, provides toys for families that are having difficulty bringing in presents for their children on Christmas Day.
Neighborhood Clean-Up Projects
The YROP takes part in their local community civic clubs in cleaning up the areas. A clean community has a great effect on any resident’s attitudes of their community.
Various Teamwork Projects and Activities
The YROP engages in teamwork activities and projects that are necessary for not only building up the program and the community, but also improving and establishing the relationship and interaction between each other, both volunteer/teen/parent and youth.
The YROP Summer Cinema Extravaganza
On one month of summer, the YROP transforms their lobby into a mini theatre, complete with popcorn and drink, and feature some of the most popular family-orientated movies that are released earlier in the year, to the neighboring children. The Summer Cinema Extravaganza is in collaboration with the volunteer staff, youth and their parents in order to bring the best movie experience for the kids and teens in the community.
The YROP Back-To-School Picnic
Every year, the YROP throws a huge Back-To-School picnic for children and teens advancing into the next semester of higher learning. The Back-to-School picnic is planned for kids and teens of all ages to “grab the last bit of summer fun” before they get ready for school.
Youth Board Council
Parents, communities, and the youth play a vital role in the planning, and decision-making process. Implementation of the programs offered consist of the youth that work closely with the agency’s volunteers and paid staff to offer ideas and make suggestions for coordinating small projects and field trips.
